Daily devotional: Man of character

Then Naomi said, "Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today."
Ruth 3:18 NIV

I want to be a man of character like Boaz. He was gracious and generous to those underneath him, not condescending or stingy. He was quick to do what was honorable, even when it meant significant disruption to his life. And he was shrewd, using the abilities the Lord blessed him with to do well in business and in interactions like the one with the kinsman-redeemer. The Lord blessed him beyond what he ever experienced in life by making him the forefather of David and Solomon, the greatest human kings, and ultimately of Jesus, who was born of Mary through his lineage.

Put shoe leather to my faith. Be a man of character like Boaz. Be kind to those less fortunate or who are under me in work. Be quick to follow through on my commitments, and choose what is honorable in every situation. Use my talents diligently.

Lord, You know my heart. I seek to serve You well and to follow You wholeheartedly. Please empower me to be the man of character You call me to be. Holy Spirit, please prompt me to choose the honorable paths and to be quick to follow through on my commitments. Thank you for this godly example in the book of Ruth, this glimpse of insight into a sliver of how Your plan of salvation unraveled through the generations.
