Daily devotional: Leading by shepherding

He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance. And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.
Psalm 78:70-72 NIV

When God chose a king to replace Saul, He did not look for the powerful, the popular, or the successful person from a worldly perspective. He looked for a man with integrity of heart, a man who sought after God and who had a shepherding heart, who used well the skills that God had blessed him with.

Remember and emulate these character traits. Be the shepherd God has called me to be, use my skills diligently, and most of all, seek after God with integrity of heart.

Lord, I ask you as Solomon did for a discerning heart, for wisdom to lead well. And please continue to build my shepherding heart in every area I have opportunity to lead in. Let my motives be always in front of me; refine them to be pure and pleasing to You. I love you.
