Daily devotional: Servant leadership

"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:26-28 NIV

God is a generous and kind God, a strong and powerful leader who sacrifices on our behalf to show us His love for us. He calls us to that same model of leadership. Rather than lording it over those under us and exercising our authority, God calls us to serve and ransom ourselves on behalf of those who we lead.

Lead like this. Grow closer to Jesus' model of leadership as I mature in Him.

Lord, You are amazing. There is so much we learn about You in Your Word that is countercultural, and yet on deeper inspection, Your ways are always best. I want to love those I lead, to lead like Jesus leads me. Please help me, work in me, and continue to transform me into Your likeness. Help me to have the discernment, discipline, and love to carry this out. I love you!
