Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:27-28 NIV
The day of the Lord is coming, a day when Jesus will come back and punish the world for its evil, punishing the wicked for their sins, destroying the sinners. It is strangely easy as a Christ-follower to rest on the awesome salvation I have in Him but somehow forget the coming judgment and how much the world needs to know. It is an interesting dichotomy that we are called to repentance and salvation by faith in Jesus Christ so that we will experience adoption as God's children and all the abundant life He has for us, but also so that we will escape the coming judgment that will ultimately come to bring justice in light of God's holiness.
Don't focus on one side of salvation to the neglect of the other. Remember both God's incredible love and the abundant life that is in store for those who trust in Jesus, as well as the wrath and destruction in store for those who choose to live their own way apart from the Lord. Pray for people's eyes and ears to be opened, for their hearts to be turned towards Christ, and then be faithful to explain the Gospel to those put in my path.
Lord, You are holy and righteous. I rest in Your grace, but also in awareness that not all will be saved. Please turn the eyes and ears of those I come into contact with to You. Open up their hearts and bring me opportunities to share the truth of your plan of salvation. Let me be an encouragement and a challenge to those who are living for themselves. I want them to know the beauty of salvation and the joy of knowing You, and I don't wish anyone to suffer rightly for not having had a clear understanding and opportunity to come to You. Please fill me with Your Spirit. Live and speak through me. Let me be rightly related to You, with Your perspective, Your thoughts, and your passions. I love you.
