For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NIV
God is so full of love for me that He made a way out of my self-centered position that is destined for failure and discontent. Imagine how much He loves me, and then imagine how much more the Father loves Jesus, in whom He has always had perfect community, to understand how great a sacrifice it was to send Jesus to the earth to suffer and die for my sins.
Believing in Jesus does not just mean agreeing that He existed, or even that He is God--even Satan and demons believe that. It means putting my faith and my trust in Him for my salvation, yielding all that I could hold onto, giving everything over to Him.
There is both a quantitative and qualitative measure to the eternal life God gave me. Eternal life is quantitative in that it means it will never end. I will enjoy the new heavens and the new earth in community forever with my Maker and Lord. Eternal life is also qualitative in that it is not of this world; it is of a different nature. This qualitative sense includes the abundant life I have even now as I follow and submit to Jesus, yearning after Him and receiving the sweet blessings He gives me through the Holy Spirit.
As David wrote in Psalm 62, find rest in God alone. My hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times and pour out my heart to Him. Proclaim Jesus' name and His salvation that is freely available to all who would come to Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to suffer and die for my sins, that through Jesus I have eternal life and salvation from my sins that would otherwise eternally separate me from You. I can't wait to be with You. Make my time here fruitful. Draw me ever closer to You, and through me draw others to You. I love you!
